Gongbamana Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Himalayan South Belt. The Gongbamana Formation was erected by Liu Guifang and Wang Sien in 1987. The section for the designation is at Gongbamana west of the Gucuo Village along the Tingri-Nyalam sector of the China- Nepal Highway (86°23′; 28°42′). Refer to the item of Gucuocun Gr, it is upper part of the Gucuocun Gr.

Lithology and Thickness
Lower part of the formation is represented by yellow green and gray green fine sandstone, siltstone and sandy mudstone with black shale. Middle part is black shale with limestone lenses. Upper part is yellow green fine sandstone and gray and gray black shale with thin-bedded sandstone, gray green and yellow green fine sandstone, and gray black sandy shale, with abundant ferriginous nodules.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The base consisting of yellow green fine sandstone with black shale lies conformably on the underlying Rigana Fm.
Upper contact
The top is not observed.
Regional extent
The present formation occurs in the Gamba, Tingri and Gucuo areas. It is persistent in lithology and contains abundant ferruginous nodules, indicative of neritic deposition.

Fossils
This formation yields ammonites Hypacanthoplites sp., H. xizangensis, H. spathi, H. cf. authullai, Oxytropidoceras aff. chihuahuense, Procheloniceras pachistephanum, Parahoplites sp., etc. in the Gucuo area.
